Gulf-town
The microprocessor of Intel Gulf-town is a hexa-core processor, Westmere owned by the family. It connects to a socket LGA1366 and has 12 MiB L3 cache.
The Gulf-town first marketed in early 2010 [1]. Originally planned to inaugurate the end Core i9, they are ultimately incorporated into the Core i7 range. The first is the Core i7 Gulftown 980X [1] running at 3.33 GHz, followed by the Core i7 970 clocked at 3.2 GHz.
Some motherboards using X58 chip-set and outputs before the Gulf-town is compatible with an updated BIOS.
Intel will update the range Gulf-town in 2011: Extreme version clocked at 3.46 GHz could be called "Core i7 990x" version and "non-Extreme" is the Core i7 980 at 3.33 GHz.
